REED EXPOSITIONS FranceREED EXPOSITIONS France

In one of the most innovative sectors in the construction industry, spearheading the drive to improve the energy efficiency, security and comfort of buildings, EQUIP'BAIE reinforces its status as an international and professional exhibition, entirely dedicated to structural openings and related equipment: joinery, closing fixtures, glazed products and solar protection. Its sister exhibition METAL EXPO is the only trade exhibition entirely devoted to metals in construction: metal joinery, interiors and decoration, ironmongery and wrought ironwork. With a wealth of new and innovative products, the 2008 session is scheduled to take place just as the French Government announces new measures to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. In terms of both new builds and renovation projects, there is a marked need for the development of technical solutions and construction systems demanding new products. All the exhibitors are responding to this demand, as evidenced by the large number of innovative products already announced. Professionals can pre-register at www.equipbaie.comhttp://www.equipbaie.com/ and www.metalexpo.com. They will then receive an electronic badge by e-mail which they simply need to print out and hand in at the exhibition entrance where they will be issued with their permanent electronic badge. More than 30,000 visitors are expected.

PERFORMANCE AWARDS, in tune with the market .

For the very first time, EQUIP'BAIE and METAL EXPO are teaming up as the organisers of the Performance Awards, which are fully in step with current economic and social developments.

The aim of this competition is to single out the best technical innovations in each sector of the structural openings and related equipment area, as well as in all uses of metals in construction.

Products offering outstanding performance in the fields of energy management, environmental protection, acoustics, solar protection, safety/security, accessibility, durability, health/hygiene, ease of implementation, design, comfort etc. are eligible for the awards.

The jury is made up of specialist journalists, officials and representatives from professional bodies and technical centres, as well as consultants, architects and project managers.

The list of nominees will be announced to the exhibitors concerned on 10 October, and to the press following the jury's first meeting.

Three top prizes will be awarded; the jury reserves the right to award further prizes and commendations.

The awards will be presented at an official ceremony hosted by French TV presenter Jérôme Bonaldi at the exhibitions' Forum on Tuesday, 18 November.

MARKETS

An annual market of 12 million windows

Over the past eight years, the French market for windows has seen strong growth of around 6% per year, with an acceleration since 2004. In 2007, 12 million windows were installed in France.

Growth in the window renovation market is steady, thanks to the general trend towards energy saving, government incentives to encourage renovation work (tax credits and VAT at 5.5%) and cold calling.

The measures announced by the government should enable this growth in the renovation segment to be sustained.

The French market for shutters (6 million shutters installed each year) is substantial: more than 80% of household windows are equipped with a shutter system.

Over the last three years, the French market for shutters has experienced significant growth, in line with all other exterior joinery markets. This market has reaped the benefits of highly favourable circumstances which have enabled both the new build and renovation segments to flourish.

There has been a surge in the popularity of roller blinds, which have now overtaken swing and slatted shutters to account for more than 73% of current sales.

The annual market for individual front doors in France is estimated at 580,000 doors

Wood, steel, PVC and aluminium all compete in an ever-expanding market (both in terms of volume and value) to be the material of choice for front doors. While wood may be the preferred material of the French, its market share has seen a decline over the last few years, whereas aluminium has experienced a noticeable boost and PVC and steel continue to retain their respective market shares.

More than 70% of front doors are sold for new construction projects. On the renovation market, more than 150,000 doors are sold per year.

Doors generally tend to require replacement as a result of sealing issues or where there has been forced entry. Such cases account for a market of 60,000 installations, with security the buyer's uppermost concern.
