FibaTape® by Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics: A diverse range of joint tapes and reinforcing products for plaster walls PDF Imprimer Envoyer
Mercredi 29 Juin 2005

SAINT-GOBAIN Technical Fabrics Europe

Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics, producer and distributor of glass fibre fabrics, has developed FibaTape®, an extensive range of joint tapes and reinforcing accessories for commercial and advanced home use, to be distributed through a fast-growing international network. In 2004, 30 million rolls of glass fibre joint tape were sold in Western and Eastern Europe, North America, Japan and Australia. The FibaTape® range is based on an avant-garde glass fibre material destined to replace paper joint tapes, which still have greater market popularity. The FibaTape® line features a complete range of innovative drywall joint tapes and reinforcing products for the building industry and DIY sector, offering advantages such as strength, flexibility, easy installation and considerable cost savings.

Glass fibre, a revolutionary material

Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics' FibaTape® joint tape has been developed to achieve strong, durable joints on square-edge or tapered-edge plasterboard walls. Constructed using unique glass fibre materials, FibaTape® is a cut above traditional paper joint tapes.

The outstanding qualities of glass fibre have produced a joint tape that is hard wearing; water and fire resistant; provides increased stability, greater durability; and ages better. Glass fibre fabric guarantees an unequalled finish, preventing bubbling, adhesion problems and the unsightly ridges frequently found with paper-based joint tapes. All FibaTape® products, other than the flexible corner tape and metal corner tape, feature an adhesive backing strip for trouble-free installation.

The FibaTape® range

Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics' focus on developing new high-performance products is behind the FibaTape® range of joint tape and reinforcing products for drywall applications. FibaTape® features joint tape and reinforcing accessory kits in a range of sizes for dry, flat plasterboard and mortar surfaces.

¸ Joint tapes
. Self-adhesive joint tapes for walls and ceilings (square-edge or tapered-edge plasterboard). Standard width (48 mm), various lengths (20 m, 45 m, 90 m, 153 m).
. Glass fibre fleece joint tapes for ceilings and walls (square-edge plasterboard). Standard width (48 mm), various lengths (20 m, 45 m, 90 m, 153 m).
. Flexible semi-plastified PVC tape for internal and external angle reinforcement. Standard width (65 mm), various lengths (8 m, 30 m).

Once the joint tape is applied to the plasterboard, a single skim coat should be applied (as opposed to two coats for paper joint tapes). This not only reduces labour and material costs, but also frees up the worksite for other tasks.

¸ Repair products
. Self-adhesive patches for repairing holes and cracks. Square aluminium-reinforced glass fibre patches (10 cm x 10 cm), thick glass fibre mesh patches for reinforcing wall cut-outs around electrical outlets (18 cm x 18 cm) and repairing holes (e.g. those caused by door handles, etc.).
. Self-adhesive glass fibre reinforcing tape. Tough, extra-wide tape that can be cut to size to repair all types of holes or cracks (15 cm x 23 m).

Adhesive patches should be smoothed directly onto the clean surface and two skim coats applied with a plasterer's trowel (7.5 cm or wider). The surface should then be sanded with coarse sand paper.

In addition to the FibaTape® range, Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics also distributes a complementary range of self-adhesive joint tapes under the JointGardT brand name (available in the same size range).

Better performance, lower costs

Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics' competitive range of high-performance joint tapes and reinforcing products offer easier, faster installation. Self-adhesive joint tapes save both time and energy since there is no need to apply a layer of glue between tape and wall, enabling professional users to lower labour costs considerably and the DIYers to get the job done in record time.

FibaTape® products are available from building suppliers and DIY stores.

Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics (turnover of 350 million euros, 1,100 employees) is a division of the Saint-Gobain group. Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics specialises in the production and sale of glass mats and fabrics for the building industry (waterproofing membranes, surfacing mats, etc.) and DIY sector (shingle, joint tape, decorative wall and ceiling coverings, etc.).
