Glass fibre is extra-tough, hygienic and incredibly rot-resistant. This avant-garde material offers excellent technological and mechanical performances. Saint-Gobain's "Textile Solutions" division benefits from the group's internationally recognised expertise to produce and distribute glass fibre fabrics for the building industry. Technical fabrics are widely used for a range of interior and exterior applications. They have a solid reputation in civil engineering, construction, automobile manufacture, medicine, electronics, etc. Technical fabrics rival traditional materials such as concrete and plaster and can be used alone (insect screens, paintable wall fabrics, etc.) or in composites (reinforced concrete coatings, etc.). Market leader Saint-Gobain Textile Solutions boasts unequalled expertise in manufacturing glass fibre fabrics and glass mat products that are continuously ahead of the market. Saint-Gobain Textile Solutions believes innovation is the key to growth, whence its highly competitive range of targeted products.

Saint-Gobain Textile Solutions: international expertise

Saint-Gobain Textile Solutions uses of highly sophisticated and quite unique manufacturing techniques in conjunction with a staff base of 3,650 in 27 production plants worldwide to generate turnover of 522,000,000 euros annually. The division headed by Arnaud Genis was established in December 2005 to bring together Saint Gobain's "Textile" (woven glass fibre thread for electronics and building applications), "Abrasive fabrics" (abrasive disks) and "Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics" (construction fabrics, industrial fabrics and glass mat) activities.

Functionalities and long-lasting performance levels are essential for technical fabrics manufactured using glass fibre. This avant-garde material offers a host of advantages: it is inalterable, rot-proof, stable, insulating, fire-resistant, waterproof and wear-resistant. Used in most industrial and building sectors, whether visible (wall coverings, etc.) or not (ETICS, etc.), the range of technical fabrics developed by Saint-Gobain Textile Solutions is the fruit of unrivalled expertise.

Mastership, unfailing energy, unrivalled expertise and partnerships with client industries all serve to advance the division's perception of technological and commercial trends in a constantly growing market.

Saint-Gobain Textile Solutions backs effective strategies to achieve financial growth and innovation.

High added-value products

Whether used alone or in composites, woven glass fibre fabrics and non-woven glass mat manufactured by Saint-Gobain Textile Solutions are high-performance, ultra-durable, and lightweight. Technical fabrics exploit the exceptional properties of glass fibre to create wide-ranging solutions for a multitude of applications. A range of ultra-modern, highly complex manufacturing techniques (weaving, knitting, plaiting, spinning, etc. for fabrics and uniform assembly with binders for mat) generate a top-quality range of products developed for interior and exterior applications in industrial and building contexts.

- Building applications:

Due to its optimum waterproofing capacities, bitumen felt reinforced and stabilised with glass fibre mesh or glass mat is the ideal waterproofing solution for flat roofs.

Glass mat coatings for glass wool confer the wool with impressive mechanical properties, without altering its thermal and acoustic insulation or fireproofing capacities.

ETICS reinforcing fabrics consist in glass fibre mesh armouring. Aluminium borosilicate glass is coated with protective resins, ensuring that the fabrics provide flawless insulation that will withstand the tests of time.

Lightweight, non-corrosive, easy to install and cut: 3D glass fibre mesh with a small square weave is specially designed to ensure that exterior coatings will last.

Fire-resistant, sun-proof and waterproof asphalt shingles reinforced with glass mat offer exceptional dimensional stability for a perfectly watertight roof.

SRG glass fibre mesh is manufactured from alkali resistant glass fibres to reinforce concrete structures in extremely alkaline environments, particularly for buildings undergoing post-seismic repairs.

Glass fibre fabrics with an adhesive coating serve to increase the adhesive strength of the mortar in situations such as when a moulding is being attached to a building's facade.

Developed to reduce road maintenance, servicing and repair costs, GlasGrid reinforcing mesh is the ideal solution for durable consolidation of asphalt surfaces. GlasGrid is tough and elastic and exploits the exceptional qualities of glass fibre to ensure top performances in heavy-traffics areas.

Glass fibre fabrics and glass mat developed to reinforce concrete and plaster panels ensure the panels age better and have greater shock and fire resistance. They are particularly effective in damp, exposed areas.

Extra-tough, rot-resistant glass fibre mesh provides a solid armour for re-surfacing damaged, uneven or deformed floors. Suitable for all types of renovation contexts. Not only does glass fibre mesh improves the stability and reduces the deformability of the pavement, but it also guarantees an exceptionally smooth finish, facilitating installation of the surface layer.

Glass fibre joint tapes are easy to install, flexible and hardwearing for strong, durable joints on plaster panels.

Acoustic mat for floors features a bitumen coating for durable acoustic comfort. Acoustic mat products should be installed on the screed or other support under the surface layer to create an effective noise barrier.

Good-looking, functional, flexible and available in pre-painted and pre-glued versions, paintable wall coverings offer both time savings and a perfect finish, making them the ideal solution for interiors. They are available in a wide range of designs, from a simple basketweave to personalised Jacquard patterns.

Glass fibre mesh and glass mat to reinforce PVC or textile tile floor coverings ensure the floor maintains perfect dimensional stability.

Reinforcing mesh for marble and granite tiles and slabs make it possible to use fragile or very thin stone and small mosaic tiles.

Corrosion-resistant glass mat is used to protect metal over-ground, underground and undersea pipes against corrosion, within and without.

Mat facings for insulating mousse for roofs provide increased dimensional stability, with greater fire resistance and improved mechanical properties.

Modern, hygienic, effective and easy to install, the insect screens consist in woven glass fibre coated with plastisol. The mesh creates an effective barrier against insects, providing a practical, effective and durable solution to prevent insects from entering the home, without reducing blocking out air or light.

- Supporting industrial processes:

Reinforcement for aluminium reels: the aluminium-mesh system is tough and does not tear when unrolled, making it an extremely viable packaging solution.

Reinforcement for membranes: many materials would not exist without glass fibre reinforcement. Glass fibre reinforcement is tear resistant and makes the finished product easier to use, offering greater competitivity.

Reinforcement for abrasive disks: glass fibre fabrics boast exceptional mechanical resistance and dimensional stability, which are exploited in the abrasives industry for quality grinding disks that offer increased levels of safety.

Reinforcement for abrasive disks: abrasive disks are composite materials consisting of a resin with glass fibre mesh reinforcement. The glass fibre mesh ensures that the disk remains rigid and cohesive during cutting and grinding operations.

Rubber used for packing and sealing is durably reinforced with woven texturised glass fibre threads, which confers exceptional shear resistance.

Glass mat facings for insulating wools are largely targeted at glass wool manufacturers.

Non-metallic dilation joints: dilation joints ensure a precision fit that adjusts for changes in length and angle within pipelines for perfect dimensional stability.

Other applications: adhesive tape, car seats, clothing (fire fighters), filtration and insulation systems are just a few of the many applications covered by Saint-Gobain Textile Solutions' range of glass fibre fabrics and glass mat products.

- Applications within the building sector and industry:

Glass fibre of varying tex (the weight in grams of 1000 linear metres) is used around the world to manufacture fabrics for the electronics industry (supports for printed circuit boards that do not conduct and are perfectly stable), the building sector and industry.

Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics-Construction (turnover of 350 million euros, 1,100 employees) is a division of the Saint-Gobain group. Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics-Construction specialises in the production and sale of glass mats and fabrics for the building industry (waterproofing membranes, surfacing mats, etc.) and DIY sector (shingle, joint tape, and decorative wall and ceiling coverings, etc.).
