Thread Title: Prednisone Prices - Canadian Options?

    Post #1 by Sparky68 (2023-09-25 14:47:45)Hey everyone,

I've been prescribed prednisone for my arthritis and the cost at our local pharmacy is pretty steep. I heard that some folks are getting it from Canadian companies, which might be cheaper. Does anyone have any experience with this? Are there legitimate places to buy it? Thanks!

    Post #2 by DocOnCall (2023-09-25 16:17:29)Hi Sparky68,

Thanks for reaching out! I understand the concern about medication costs. Prednisone is indeed often cheaper when sourced from Canadian pharmacies, but it's important to ensure that you're getting it from a reputable source.

There are several trusted Canadian online pharmacies like Canada Drugs or Pharmacy North that have good reviews and offer competitive prices. Before ordering, make sure they require a valid prescription from your doctor and that their pricing is transparent.

Also, keep in mind the shipping times can vary based on where you live. It's best to start the process as early as possible so you don’t run out of medication.

If you have any more questions or need further advice, feel free to ask!

    Post #3 by Sparky68 (2023-09-25 17:34:09)Hi DocOnCall,

Thanks for your detailed response! I'll check out Canada Drugs and Pharmacy North. Do you know if insurance covers the cost when purchasing from these Canadian pharmacies? Also, are there any other costs associated with ordering from them?

    Post #4 by DocOnCall (2023-09-25 18:42:47)Hi Sparky68,

Insurance coverage varies widely depending on your specific plan. Some insurance providers may cover the cost if you purchase through their preferred online pharmacy network, which might include Canadian options. However, other plans require that prescriptions be filled at a brick-and-mortar pharmacy within your network.

When it comes to additional costs from Canadian pharmacies:- Shipping Fees: Most reputable Canadian pharmacies will charge a nominal shipping fee.- Prescription Verification Fee (PVF): Some may have a PVF if they need to verify the authenticity of your prescription.

It's worth reaching out directly to the pharmacy or checking their website for detailed pricing information and any additional fees. If you're still unsure, it might be helpful to contact your insurance provider to clarify coverage options before placing an order.

Post #5 by Sparky68 (2023-09-25 19:23:34)Thanks so much for the information, DocOnCall! I'll definitely reach out to my insurance provider and also check with those Canadian pharmacies. It’s reassuring to know that there are legitimate options out there.

If you have any more tips or advice, please share!

Post #6 by DocOnCall (2023-09-25 20:17:48)You're welcome, Sparky68! Here are a few more tips:

    • Always Verify: Before placing an order, check if the Canadian pharmacy is listed on verified and accredited sites like LegitScript.
    • Communication with Your Doctor: Keep your doctor informed about where you’re getting your medication from. They can help guide you and ensure continuity of care.
    • Prescription Details: Make sure that all details on the prescription are correct, including dosage, duration, and refill instructions.

If you encounter any issues or have further questions, feel free to reach out here in the forum. Good luck with your search!
