    Topic: Propecia Dosage - 1mg vs. 5mg?

    Posted by: BaldBeaut

    Hey everyone,

I've been prescribed Propecia for hair loss and I'm a bit confused about the dosage. Should I go with 1 mg or should I ask my doctor to prescribe 5 mg? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi BaldBeaut,

Firstly, it's important to understand that Propecia is typically prescribed at a dose of 1 mg per day for hair loss. The effectiveness and safety profile are well-documented at this dosage. There isn't any strong evidence or widespread medical recommendation supporting the use of higher doses like 5 mg.

However, it’s crucial to discuss your concerns with your prescribing doctor as they know your full health history and can provide personalized advice based on that information.

Would you mind sharing why you are considering a higher dose? Are there specific reasons for wanting to take more?

    Hi DocOnDuty,

Thanks for the quick response. I’ve been reading some forums where guys mentioned they felt better results at 5 mg than with 1 mg, so that’s why I was curious. But if it's not recommended, maybe sticking to 1 mg would be safer.

    You're welcome!

While anecdotal reports can sometimes lead people to consider higher doses, the clinical evidence for Propecia is based on a standard dose of 1 mg per day. This dosage has shown significant benefits in hair regrowth and maintaining existing hair without increasing the risks associated with higher dosages.

The side effects profile at 5 mg is not well-studied compared to the commonly used 1 mg, so it would be safer to stick with what’s been clinically validated unless your doctor prescribes otherwise. Additionally, always consider that individual response can vary, and sometimes even slight adjustments in lifestyle or other medications might complement Propecia's effects.

Feel free to bring up these points when you see your physician next time. They should give you a more personalized recommendation based on your health status and preferences.

Got it! Thanks for the thorough explanation, DocOnDuty. I'll stick with 1 mg and see how that goes. If there are no improvements after some time, I'll definitely consult my doctor again. Appreciate your help!

You're very welcome, BaldBeaut! It's great to hear you’re taking a cautious approach. Remember, patience is key when it comes to treatments like Propecia; it can take several months before seeing noticeable results.

Keep monitoring your progress and stay in touch with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns or changes in how you feel. Best of luck!
