    Forum Thread: Prednisone Side Effects

Hey everyone! I’ve been on prednisone for the past few weeks to manage some inflammation from an old injury. But now I’m experiencing some strange symptoms like severe mood swings, and I’m gaining weight really fast, even though I haven’t changed my diet much. Does anyone else have these issues?

Hi CuriousCat! Those symptoms can be related to the side effects of prednisone. It’s a powerful corticosteroid that can cause mood changes and weight gain, especially when used for an extended period.

Thanks DrSmoothie! That's good to know. I also have these really bad acne breakouts and my skin feels so dry, it's almost painful. Is this normal?

Yes, those are common side effects as well. Prednisone can affect your skin in various ways; increased oil production leading to breakouts is one of them. The dryness could be due to changes in how your body regulates moisture.

I see. And I’ve also been having trouble sleeping and my appetite has gone through the roof! Are these related too?

Absolutely, CuriousCat. Prednisone can disrupt sleep patterns due to its stimulating effects, which might make it harder for you to fall asleep or stay asleep. The increased appetite is also linked to prednisone use; your body may be sending signals that you need more food than usual.

Thanks so much for the detailed information! I’ve been feeling very anxious about these symptoms and it’s reassuring to know they're not unusual. Should I talk to my doctor about reducing the dosage?

It's a good idea, CuriousCat. If your symptoms are severe or causing you significant discomfort, discussing this with your healthcare provider is crucial. They can evaluate if the benefits of prednisone outweigh these side effects and explore alternatives or adjustments to your current treatment plan.

That makes sense. I’ll set up an appointment soon then. Thanks again for your help!
