Topic: Can You Still Get Accutane From Canada?

Hi everyone,
I’ve been dealing with severe acne for years now. My dermatologist mentioned that I might benefit from using Accutane (isotretinoin). However, it seems like the drug is not as readily available in the U.S. anymore due to strict regulations and potential side effects.
Has anyone had any success getting Accutane from Canada? Is it even possible?
Thanks,SunflowerSkinCare

Hi SunflowerSkinCare,
Thank you for your post. I can understand how frustrating and stressful dealing with severe acne can be.
To answer your question directly: Yes, it is possible to obtain Accutane (isotretinoin) from Canada, but there are a few important points to consider:
Legality: It's essential to ensure that you’re obtaining the medication legally. In some cases, purchasing medications online or through international pharmacies can be risky and may not be legal in your country.
Prescription Requirement: Just like in the U.S., Accutane will require a prescription from a licensed healthcare provider in Canada. You would need to consult with a Canadian dermatologist who could then provide you with a prescription that a pharmacy could fill.
Safety and Quality Control: Make sure any source from which you get your medication is reputable and follows proper quality control procedures. Counterfeit or substandard medications can pose serious health risks.
Import Regulations: Be aware of the regulations regarding importing medications across international borders, as these can vary widely depending on where you live and where you’re getting the medication from.
It’s also important to discuss all your concerns with a healthcare provider in person. They can give you tailored advice based on your medical history and current health status.
Best of luck,DermDocOnline

Thank you so much for the detailed response, DermDocOnline!
I am definitely going to talk to my dermatologist about this. I want to make sure that if we decide to go down this route, it’s done safely and legally.
Do you have any recommendations on how to find a reputable Canadian dermatologist? Is there a specific website or database I can use?

You're welcome, SunflowerSkinCare!
Finding a reputable dermatologist in Canada can be done through several reliable sources:
- College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (CPS):
Visit the CPS website to verify if the dermatologists you are considering are licensed and registered in Canada.
Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA):
- The CDA website has a directory where you can search for dermatologists by province or region.
Website: https://dermatology.ca/
Local Hospital Affiliations:
Many Canadian hospitals have affiliated dermatologists who are reputable and well-versed in current treatments, including isotretinoin.
Online Reviews and Recommendations:
Websites like Google or Healthgrades often feature reviews from patients. While not definitive, they can provide an idea of the care you might receive.
Consult Your Current Dermatologist:
- Your U.S.-based dermatologist may have contacts in Canada who are experienced with treating severe acne with isotretinoin.
It’s always a good practice to have an initial consultation either by phone or video call before considering any international treatment options. This way, you can discuss your medical history and ensure that the Canadian physician is well-informed about your case.
I hope this helps, SunflowerSkinCare! Let me know if there's anything else I can assist with.DermDocOnline

Thanks so much for all the information and resources, DermDocOnline. I will definitely look into these options to find a reputable dermatologist in Canada.
I'll also talk more with my current dermatologist about this. It's reassuring to know that there are ways to access isotretinoin if it’s the right treatment option for me.
Thanks again,SunflowerSkinCare
