Forum Topic: Propecia Online from China - Is It Safe?
Posted by: HealthSeeker123Date/Time: 04-15-2023 09:47 AM
Hi everyone,
I've been dealing with hair loss for a few years now and have tried everything from shampoos to supplements. A friend recommended Propecia, which I know is normally prescribed by doctors in the US or UK. However, I found some online stores selling it cheaper in China. Is it safe to order it from there? What are your thoughts?

Hello HealthSeeker123,
Thank you for reaching out with this question. It's important to be cautious when purchasing medications online, especially from international sources like China. While Propecia (finasteride) is a legitimate and effective medication for treating male pattern baldness, there are some significant risks associated with ordering it from overseas.
Firstly, the quality control in other countries may not match that of regulated markets such as the US or UK. This means you might receive counterfeit products or ones with incorrect dosages, which can be dangerous. Secondly, if something goes wrong, getting help from a medical professional can be difficult when your medication is sourced internationally.
It's always safer and more reliable to get Propecia through a licensed healthcare provider in your country who can prescribe it legally and monitor your progress closely. I would recommend setting up an appointment with your doctor or a dermatologist to discuss your hair loss issues and explore safe treatment options.
If you still want to explore the option of buying online, make sure to use reputable websites that require a prescription and have positive reviews from other customers.

Thank you so much for your detailed response, DrMedic8. I hadn’t really considered the quality control and safety issues that come with buying from China.
I will definitely take your advice and set up an appointment with my dermatologist to discuss Propecia in person. It makes sense to go through a professional who can ensure the medication is genuine and monitor any side effects or progress.
Do you have any general tips for someone considering going on Propecia? I’m curious about potential side effects and how long it might take to see results.

You're welcome, HealthSeeker123. It's great that you’re taking the step of consulting a professional before starting any new medication.
When it comes to Propecia (finasteride), here are some general points to consider:
Effectiveness: Finasteride works by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which reduces the levels of DHT in your scalp. This can help slow hair loss and promote regrowth for many men. Studies show that a significant number of users experience improvement within 6-12 months.
Side Effects: Common side effects include decreased libido (sex drive), erectile dysfunction, and reduced semen volume. However, these usually subside once you stop taking the medication. Some people may also experience more serious side effects, so it's important to discuss your medical history with a doctor before starting.
Monitoring Progress: Regular follow-ups with your dermatologist are key to monitoring your progress and adjusting treatment as needed. They can help you understand what to expect and how to manage any potential side effects effectively.
Remember, everyone’s response to Propecia is different. While it works well for many people, others may not see significant results. Your doctor will be able to guide you based on your individual health profile and needs.
